What would Lloyd Dobler have done?
Only a matter of time...it was bound to happen...
It's funny how you can wait an eternity, praying for just that one moment, that one opportunity to satisfy your deepest desire, that single chance to pluck your dreams out from the nether regions of your being and give them untethered flight. You think and think, over and over again what to say, how to say it, why you're saying it...for when the moment arrives nothing has been left to chance, your words have become gospel and things turn out exactly as you had hoped, no...expected.
And then you're blindsided...caught unaware.
Your fear is open to the public...free admission. Once again, you're exposed...vulnerable...and now you're scared. Nervous, hesitant, you pray for an understanding to occur without your involvement, for your throat no longer has its voice. You desperately want to say the words that you have been rehearsing, you need to. But you hold back, closing what has needed opening for so long. No longer shopping for books, your objective has become reaching the shore before you go under. Easy words, a simple sentence...gone with the undertow. Here are the choices...swim, tread or sink. Which one is best...for you...for the moment? They don't really matter anymore...the moment is gone. And now you are waiting for tomorrow...but now today is tomorrow. It's time to make a call.
As far as what Lloyd would have done? That's easy...
"Don't worry about it, we'll just have coffee...we'll be anti-social. Friends...with potential."
"I'll be the new me...my assault on the world begins now. Welcome to greatness..."
Thanks Lloyd...
