Oh those silly Americans and their easily offended ears

Watched Jay Leno the other night to catch the Bright Eyes performance. Okay, that last bit is partly true...I did watch Bright Eyes perform but I avoided the rest of the show as much as possible because...well, Jay does have a nice car collection but that's about all he has going for him. So I watched Ben Stein's interview on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson instead. Here's the interesting part. During Bright Eyes' performance of "When the president talks to God" which garnered kudos from me to NBC for allowing the song to be performed at all, the only part of the song to be bleeped was the word "bullshit". Interesting...since I thought the performance would be interrupted with 3000 Imperial Stormtroopers running on to the set and blasting everything and imprisoning Bright Eyes and Jay for treason. Meanwhile during the Ben Stein bit, Craig asked Ben if he was "Deep Throat" since he was Nixon's speechwriter, to which Ben assured the American public he was not but he was a fan of the film. Then a brief discussion of the film and how it got its title ensued, with Ben explaining the details of such a time-honoured hobby. When he got to "gag reflex"...El Bleepo!!! "Gag reflex" gets bleeped?? Since when? Sighhh...oh another thing that is interesting is not so much the uproar over the song on blogs worldwide (surprise...) but the fact that ITunes has it as a FREE download... but not for Canadian or UK customers...hmmmmmm. Has being anti-Bush become a strictly American pastime? Wow...how patriotic...I guess...hmmmmmmm.
